In this type of questions we can go through options carefully and can judge 57% as ans instead of caluclating that big numbers/ 50%20400 is 10200 and total is near to that.. |

Third candidate received more votes compare than other 2 candidates, so third candidate is winner. |

50% of 20400 = 10200. 11628-10200 = 1428. 1428*100/20400 = 7. 50+7 = 57. |

Simply we can judge by given choice that winning percentage should be more than 50%. Which is close to 57%. It will be the answer. It all about practice. |

Hi Anil. It already mentioned in the question that how much votes did get the winning candidate so there is nothing to worry about. |

Vinus said: (Sep 27, 2014)

How we can known that total no vote polled 20400 as in question not mentioned? |

Vipin Prakash Mishra said: (Nov 1, 2014)

@Vinus. Total Votes = Sum of Votes of all Party (First party+Second Party+Third Party +.....+n). But in this question, there are three party. So add only three party. |

Pratik said: (Sep 15, 2015)

11+7+1+0.6+0.6=21. Then 21/2=10. So that is greater than 50%. |

Thanks for giving short cut @Pratik. |

Total votes = 1136 + 7636 + 11628 = 20400. Let % of vote x. Then. (x/100) * 20400 = 11628. x = (11628 * 100) / 20400. x = 57. |

Please, can anyone get me the answer for this question? In an election, only two candidates contested 20% of the voters did not vote and 120 votes were declared as invalid. The winner got 200 votes more than his opponent thus he secured 41% votes of total voters on the voter list. Percentage votes of the defeated candidate out of total votes cast is? |

Kaveri said: (Oct 12, 2016)

Why we should take 11628 as numerator? |

Prakash said: (Oct 12, 2016)

How to solve this problem without calculator is there any tips? Please tell me. |

Total number of votes polled = (1136 + 7636 + 11628) = 20400. Winner vote = 11628. 20400/100 = 204 (1% of votes), 20400/10 = 2040 (10% of votes)(204 * 10 = 2040), 20400/2 = 10200 (50% of votes)(204 * 50 = 10200), 60% of votes = 50% of votes + 10% of votes = 10200 + 2040 = 12240. The result is 11628 <12240 (answer is 57%). |

57%. |

Why we take numerator as 11628? Please explain it to me. |

Priyaa said: (Jun 8, 2017)

Why 100 is multiplied instead to be in the place of divisor -last step? |

Priyanka said: (Jul 18, 2017)

How come 57%? Please explain. |

Hello to all, I think this very easy question & Iwill try to solve in very easy way. Now see, Total number of votes are = (1136 + 7636 + 11628) = 20400 in which 11628 votes are the highest num. of votes & the candidate who has the highest num of votes is a winner. Now, we find What percentage of the total votes did the winning candidate get? And already the % of votes is given in answers, we just try check it whether or not the given % of total num of votes equals to the highest num. of votes. i.e 57% of 20400 = 11628 (highest num of votes i.e winner) (57/100) * 20400 = 11628. So. therefore answer is option (a).57%. |

Total votes. = 1136 + 7636 + 11628, = 20400. Percentage =11628/20400, = 57%. |

Rekha said: (Sep 15, 2018)

@All. There is a clear point in question like, we have to calculate the winning percentage only. We have already know 3rd contestant has got highest votes. So we have a formula like. (Number of votes won by the contestant)/(total number of votes won by all). As we know we are calculating percentage so multiply with 100. |

Sanju said: (Dec 9, 2018)

How come 11628/20400? Please explain me. |

Mrunali Ramteke said: (Jun 14, 2019)

@Venkatesh. They consider votes of the third person as a winner because the third person got the highest votes. In generic life who gets highest votes that one is the winner. |
