The ratio between the perimeter and the breadth of a rectangle is 5 : 1. If the area of the rectangle is 216 sq. cm, what is the length of the rectangle?
16 cm
18 cm
24 cm
Data inadequate
None of these
Answer: Option
Explanation:

2(l + b) = 5
b 1

2l + 2b = 5b

3b = 2l

b = 2 l
3

Then, Area = 216 cm2

l x b = 216

l x 2 l = 216
3

l2 = 324

l = 18 cm.

It's wrong the correct answer is 12.
Let,
l = x
b = y
P = 5x.
P = 2(x+y) = 5x.
= 2x+2y = 5x,
=2y = 3x,
=y = 3x/2.

Area=l*b=216.
x*3x/2=216,
x*x=432/3,
x= √144,
x=12.
Therefore length(x) of the rectangle is 12.

The right answer is 18, b = 12, l = 18.
