14.
A rectangular field is to be fenced on three sides leaving a side of 20 feet uncovered. If the area of the field is 680 sq. feet, how many feet of fencing will be required?
Answer: Option
Explanation:
We have: l = 20 ft and lb = 680 sq. ft.
So, b = 34 ft.
Length of fencing = (l + 2b) = (20 + 68) ft = 88 ft.

Here, we have to leave the side of 20 means from the perimeter of the rectangle that is = 2(l+b)-20.
Let's take length = 20 or width = 20, not matter.
After putting in the area formula you will get l*b = 680.
l = 34
b = 20.
After putting in the perimeter which you can say fencing around the rectangle you will get as 88.
Thank you.

@Harika.
There is no rule that the shorter side should always be the breadth, and longer side should always be the length. They are just variables and we are assigning the values to the variables.
They have conisdered 20 ft as length, you can consider it as breadth if you do so the final equation will change i.e. 2l+b.

Why we consider 20ft as length not as breadth? Please explain.

For guys who are confused about l+2b.
They have mentioned that 20ft side is not fenced.
While solving they have considered 20ft side to be as l, and hence the final answer is l+2b.
If they had considered 20ft as b while solving, then the final equation would have been 2l + b.

He has considered 20 as Length because In a rectangle always LENGTH is larger than BREADTH.
Here, he has given 20. Let it be L or B.
Substitute in LxB = 680.
Whichever the value comes less that will be the breadth.

Why it will be l+2b?
Because here is not mentioned that either length or breath which one has to be covered?

How come l + 2b?

We can take the side of 20 metres anything as breadth or length.
AREA = L * B
GIVEN: AREA = 680
BREADTH = 20
:: LENGTH=680/20=34
FENCING MEANS PUTTING A COVERING ON THE BOUNDARIES. SO HERE THEY ARE SAYIN TO PUT ONLY ON THREE SIDES AND LEAVE THE SIDE WITH 20 METRES.SO ONLY 3 SIDES WILL BE COVERED.
HENCE =(2 SIDES OF 34 MTERES) + ( 1 SIDE OF 20 METRES)
=20+34+34=88 METRES
AREA = L * B
GIVEN: AREA = 680
BREADTH = 20
:: LENGTH=680/20=34
