First the milk had removed and replace by water it is 1 time later it had repeated for 2 times.
So total 1+2 = 3 times.
So the value of n is taken as 3.

It compare with the basic formula, to calculate the amount in case of Simple interest but here rate is negative.

36-4 == taken out 10% milk == 32.40.
32.40 == taken out 10% milk == 29.16.

For this type of questions the formula is a(1-b/a) whole power n.
a = Initial quantity.
b = Taken out quantity.
n = Nor of times.

4/40 ratio = 1/10.
Process 2 times so milk ratio 1000:729(1000-729=271water).
40/1000 = 0.04.
0.04 * 729 = 29.16.

Only 2 times is given in the question. How can you say the action was repeated thrice and cube that.

Step1: 40 - (10% of 40) = 36.
Step2: 36 - (10% of 36) = 32.4.
Step3: 32.4 - (10% of 32.4) = 29.16.
