With automation, the need of driver & guard can be eliminated. Railless trains running on magnetic levitation are/were to be launched in Delhi. But, even if an engine of mechanical parts is replaced by complex electrical circuitry, it will still remain an engine. So, option D.

If we can't get the answer easily we can do elimination like.
Rails and guards are not needed (as musheer said trains use rails but they don't have it).
Then driver and engine. Engine is more important than driver.
I did like this. If there is any wrong please tell me.

Clearly, rails are necessary for the train to move on. Driver alone can move the train. A guard is necessary for safety. A train is moved for the passengers. But all these do not constitute a train. A train can not be called so without engine. So, the answer is (d).

A train always had an engine because it will not work if engine is not there. And in this question the had asked that what a train has and a train runs on rails, but it is not equipped with a rail it self.

Chinmoy see if a train is standing outside rail then won't you call it a train. You will right? but if the train is without any engine then you will cal it coach not trian. Dats a difference.

Trains means it contains engine and bogies, here question is train always has means it contains engine. So here unless have any engine linked to bogies you cannot call it as train.

All the vehicles run with engine.
But for train rail is must, without rail train cannot be stand so running is the secondary matter. So I think rail is correct option.

Engine is the correct answer as it is a part of train a subset of a universal set called train. Others are external and hence secondary.

The Question is the train always has?.
So Engine will always in the train. Other Guard, Driver, Rail may not be always with the train.

Rails are must for the Trains to even exist. Without a Driver, Engine and the Guard it can still be called Train if it is on the Rails.
