Discussion Forum : Syllogism - Syllogism 1 (Q.No. 9)
Directions to Solve
In each of the following questions two statements are given and these statements are followed by two conclusions numbered (1) and (2). You have to take the given two statements to be true even if they seem to be at variance from commonly known facts. Read the conclusions and then decide which of the given conclusions logically follows from the two given statements, disregarding commonly known facts.
Give answer:
- (A) If only (1) conclusion follows
- (B) If only (2) conclusion follows
- (C) If either (1) or (2) follows
- (D) If neither (1) nor (2) follows and
- (E) If both (1) and (2) follow.

Option A is not the correct answer because the relationship between the cows and elephants is not established through the statements and cannot be determined through an intermediary called "crows".
The second Venn diagram is possible but not so, however, the first Venn diagram is always true.
So, we have to assume that the first Venn diagram is the correct representation unless more details are provided, I hope this helps.

Guys. Option D is d the correct one.
Here two diff diagrams says that there are two different possibility.
Either it can satisfy 1st diagram or 2nd diagram.
So in this condition (where there are two diff possibility) how can we make the conclusion. So we CANNOT make d CONCLUSION here.
This is the rule.
And here Or represents two different possibility. Its not like either fulfill this or fulfill other condition.

Draw all possible diagrams which satisfy the statement, then check each diagram.
If and only if all the diagram satisfies the statement given in 1 or 2 than the respective statement will be true. If any diagram fails to satisfy the relation than the respective statement will be false.
In above question diagram, 2 is satisfying whereas diagram 1 is not satisfying, hence the given answer is D.

In statement 1 some cows are crows.
Middle term is crows but in first statement middle is the predicate not the subject. Thats way it is reject and.
Second statement is some crows are elephants.
In second statement middle terms is subject. Thats way we use it.
So the conclusion of the second statement is some elephants are crows.
So neither 1 or nor 2 follows.
Hope it is useful for all.

The answer is D because in syllogism the second figure is used as a possibility. So to find the condition true or false we would see the first figure rather than the second one. And if possibility is asked then the answer would have been first which is 1 one follows.
Therefore some cows and elephant is a possibility not true.
I hope this answer helps you.
Therefore some cows and elephant is a possibility not true.
I hope this answer helps you.

Answer A is correct because first, we draw basic diagram then according to the conclusion we create possible diagrams if any one of the possible diagram is true then we left basic diagram and consider the possible digram. Here in question, the first diagram is basic diagram and second is the possible diagram (which is a draw based on conclusion).

Here Option D is correct.
If you get any questions in which only some is using then these types of questions do have not any conclusions
The right statement option should be given.
1) some cows are crows and elephants.
2) some crows are cows and elephants.
3) some elephants are cows and crows.

Every one of there, here some cows are elephants in 2nd diagram and some cows are not elephants. So we got two cases here. If we say that "some cows are elephants" but diagram 1 disagrees to that conclusion. So, in that case we have to give answer as neither. So, option D is correct.

I'm not able to understand, two possible vein diagram have been drawn. The second conclusion has been complete overruled, as no possible diagram satisfies it, but the first conclusion is satisfied by one of the two diagrams, then why neither follows?

@All.
In the explanation section, the 2nd diagram itself tells that, if some cows are crows and some elephants are crows.
Then it's clear that there is a relation possible that some cows can be elephants.
So, A should be the correct answer.
