Directions to Solve
Choose the correct alternative that will continue the same pattern and replace the question mark in the given series.
1.
120, 99, 80, 63, 48, ?
Answer: Option
Explanation:
The pattern is - 21, - 19, - 17, - 15,.....

Hi all,
I got correct answer like this,
120 - 80 = 40
99 - 63 = 36
80 - 48 = 32
63 - x = 28
so x is 35. All differences vary with a value of 4 in decreasing order. I know its too complicated. But reasoning
never results with one exact answer. We can have arrive at different possible answer(s).

The given series is 120,99,80,63,48.... the difference between the series is ie 120-99=21... like this 99-80=19;
17, and 15... the main diff b/w the answer is 2 for all so at the end 63-48 we got 15 so 15-2=13 there fore 48-13=35.
So simple.

There is another method....
10*12=120
9*11=99
8*10=80
7*9=63
6*8=48
now look at the series 1st multiples r 10,9,8,7,6,
So next is 5
look at 2nd multiples 12,11,10,9,8, so nxt comes 7
thr4 5*7=35
10*12=120
9*11=99
8*10=80
7*9=63
6*8=48
now look at the series 1st multiples r 10,9,8,7,6,
So next is 5
look at 2nd multiples 12,11,10,9,8, so nxt comes 7
thr4 5*7=35

There any be another logic for this question which,
Which,
(11)^2 - 1 = 120
(10)^2 - 1=99
(9)^2 - 1=80
(8)^2 - 1=63
(7)^2 - 1=48.
So with this conclusions;
(6)^2 - 1 = 35.
Which,
(11)^2 - 1 = 120
(10)^2 - 1=99
(9)^2 - 1=80
(8)^2 - 1=63
(7)^2 - 1=48.
So with this conclusions;
(6)^2 - 1 = 35.

120-199=21
[21-19=2]
99-80=19
[19-17=2]
80-63=17
[17-15=2]
63-48=15
[15-13=2]
So subtract 48-13=35.
Finally, the difference between the series is 2.
[21-19=2]
99-80=19
[19-17=2]
80-63=17
[17-15=2]
63-48=15
[15-13=2]
So subtract 48-13=35.
Finally, the difference between the series is 2.

There is another way:
11 * 11 - 1 = 120
10 * 10 - 1 = 99
9 * 9 - 1 = 80
8 * 8 - 1 = 63
7 * 7 - 1 = 48.
So, with this conclusion:
6*6 - 1 = 35.
11 * 11 - 1 = 120
10 * 10 - 1 = 99
9 * 9 - 1 = 80
8 * 8 - 1 = 63
7 * 7 - 1 = 48.
So, with this conclusion:
6*6 - 1 = 35.

Here there is another method.
11*10+10
10*9+9
9*8+8
8*7+7
7*6+6
If we follow like this answer will be;
6*5+5 which is 35.
11*10+10
10*9+9
9*8+8
8*7+7
7*6+6
If we follow like this answer will be;
6*5+5 which is 35.

11*10 = 110+10 = 120.
10*9 = 90 +9 = 99.
9*8 = 72 +8 = 80.
8*7 = 56 +7 = 63.
7*6 = 42 +6 = 48.
6*5 = 30 +5 = 35.
10*9 = 90 +9 = 99.
9*8 = 72 +8 = 80.
8*7 = 56 +7 = 63.
7*6 = 42 +6 = 48.
6*5 = 30 +5 = 35.

The given series are in the forms
11*11=121-1=120
as follows
7*7=49-1=48
so
6*6=36-1=35
11*11=121-1=120
as follows
7*7=49-1=48
so
6*6=36-1=35
