In question it is mentioned that "C is sitting next to D" but in answer, the seating arrangement is given as "E B A C D" how its possible?

Please tell me if anyone know.

Vigneshwaran K.S said: (Dec 29, 2010)
@All

Please try to understand one thing that 'C is sitting next to D' means C can be sitting LEFT or RIGHT to D.

Please Don't assume 'next' means it should be RIGHT side.

Therefore, the given answer is correct.

Hope this will help you.

But it is mentioned that c is on the second position from the right of A. I think E,B,A,D,C.

B and D is correct

Hope tis cud help u..

1. A is sitting next to B. so,

A B

2. C is sitting next to D. so,

C D

3. D is not sitting with E, who is on the left end of the bench. so,

E _ _ _ _

4. C is on the second position from the right. so,

E _ _ C _

5. A is to the right of B and E. A and C are sitting together.

E B A C D

because A should be placed to left of C so that it will be right of E. Also it should be to the right of B, so place B next to E. Now A and C will be sitting together. Only place left will be towards the right end, there you place D.

6. So, A is sitting between B and C

7. And the answer is option B

I have doubt about directions..how to determine left and right here..is it to left of the person solving the puzzle as it is assumed in this solution or to the letters, which we assume in other solutions like seating arrangements in cirecle

Vigneshwaran K.S is correct
Don't assume 'next' means it should be RIGHT side.

Vasavi said: (Feb 25, 2013)
There are 5 sitting in a bench, You could always start with the one which is clearly mentioned which is "E", E is sitting in the Left End,

It is mentioned that "A" is sitting to the right of "E" & "B" so Now we found the 3 seats from Left which is "E", "B", "A".

It is also given that "A" & "C" are sitting together which means "E", "B", "A", "C" and the remaining is "D".

Ritesh said: (Apr 20, 2013)
Yes @Vasavi is right.

Here "sitting next" doesn't mean that it will be on right side only. It may on either left or right side. But here in the question it clearly mention that A is right to B and hence A is placed right to B. In question it also mention that C position is 2nd from the right so here no option is left, you have to place the D on right side of C.

Hence the equation must be E B A C D.

Suzza said: (Aug 17, 2013)
i) D is not sitting with E who is on the left end of the bench.
Ans: E _ _ _ _

ii) C is on the second position from the right.
Ans: E _ _ C _

iii) A is to the right of B and E.
Ans: E B A C _ or E B A C D

So answer is option B.

There are contradictory conditions.

I. C is next to D.

II. A and C are sitting together.

Position of C is clear so D is next to it that is at right end.

Pbd said: (Aug 23, 2014)
I have one doubt friends. Should I always assume that 'next' means it will be always the immediate one? particularly in this type of questions.

Harendra A said: (Oct 20, 2014)
C is on the second position from the right, is not possible when C is sitting next to D.

Kirankumar said: (Oct 30, 2014)

Aswini said: (Sep 5, 2015)
'A' is sitting next to 'B' means 'A' should be on right side of 'B' as we are following row seating arrangement from left to right. Then how is it possible 'C' 'D' as per the given question?

Ravinder Singh said: (Sep 26, 2015)
From all of this it is clear that in question there should be "D" is sitting next to "C" instead of "C" is sitting next to "D" to full fill the condition that C is on the second position from right. And also we are going from left to right.

I can't understand the answer of this problem.

Taz said: (Aug 31, 2016)
A is next to B means- BA,
C sitting next to D means-DC,
E sits left to the bench. So the order is E B A D C.

NOW, A sitting in between B & D.

IF IT IS WRONG, CAN ANY ONE EXPLAIN THE CORRECT ORDER?

Paramjeet Singh said: (Sep 28, 2016)
If C is second from right. It means second from D but D show left in end according to question.

The line should be as E,B,A,D,C. According to the question this would be correct arrangement.

C is sitting next to D. How it's possible?

Kavitha said: (Mar 17, 2017)
The correct order is EBACD.

So A is between B and C.

A is sitting next to B -> BA.
C is sitting next to D. How it CD?

Aaryan said: (May 21, 2017)
A is sitting between B and C.

E B A C D.

Viji said: (Jul 20, 2017)
Yes, you are correct @Vasuravada.

Shaurya said: (Oct 6, 2017)
According to the question.

E is at the leftmost corner out of the 5 seats.
Now, 4 seats are left.
C is 2nd from the right.
Now it is given that a is sitting next to c and b
Therefore it means it cannot sit on rightmost seat.
Therefore it is sitting to left of c
Now since it is sitting to right of b and next to c -
Hence a is on the 3 Rd position and b is on the 2 new position.
Only one seat is left now and therefore d is on the rightmost seat.

Vishala said: (Nov 2, 2017)
If the direction is not mention in the question we take always they are facing NORTH side.

C is next to D means either left are right.

So, the order is E B D C A.

Vishala said: (Nov 2, 2017)
Sorry for giving wrong arrangement previously the actual arrangement is E B A C D.

Sand said: (Jan 10, 2018)

E B A C D

Because A should be placed to the left of C so that it will be right of E. Also it should be to the right of B, so place B next to E. Now A and C will be sitting together. The only place left will be towards the right end, there you place D.

6. So, A is sitting between B and C.

7. And the answer is option B.

I Hope this could help you all.

I think, here sitting next means. Sitting adjacently or in any side.

C D or D C doesn't matter.

C is sitting next to D,......................................................................D C.
D is not sitting with E who is on the left end of the bench..............E 2 3 4 5.
C is on the second position from the right......................................E 4 3 C 1.
A is to the right of B and E..............................................................E B A C D.
A and C are sitting together............................................................E B A C D.

1. A and C are sitting together
i.e A C

2. A is to the right of B and E
i.e E B A C

3. C is on the second position from the right / D is not sitting with E who is on the left end of the bench.
Put D in the last place.
E B A C D.

4. It justifies A is sitting next to B and C is sitting next to D.

Answer: A is between B and C.
