Question: How many gift boxes were sold on Monday ?

Statements:

  1. It was 10% more than the boxes sold on the earlier day i.e. Sunday.
  2. Every third visitor to the shop purchased the box and 1500 visitors were there on Sunday

I alone is sufficient while II alone is not sufficient
II alone is sufficient while I alone is not sufficient
Either I or II is sufficient
Neither I nor II is sufficient
Both I and II are sufficient
Answer: Option
Explanation:

From II, we can conclude that (1500 * 3) = 500 boxes were sold on Sunday.

Thus, from I, we find that number of boxes sold on Monday = 500 + 10% of 500 = 550.

Can anyone explain this logic?

They have assumed each visitor buying only 1 box, since there were 1500 visitors 1500 boxes were bought.

However, only one-third of the visitors bought the boxes, hence the total boxes bought were: 1500/3 = 500.

This information can be extracted from statement II.

From statement 1 it is evident then sales on Monday increased by 10% then on Sunday.
!0% of 500 = 50.

Hence, total boxes sold were 500 + 50 = 550.
