Question: How is Tanya related to the man in the photograph ?

Statements:

  1. Man in the photograph is the only son of Tanya's grandfather.
  2. The man in the photograph has no brothers or sisters and his father is Tanya's grandfather.

I alone is sufficient while II alone is not sufficient
II alone is sufficient while I alone is not sufficient
Either I or II is sufficient
Neither I nor II is sufficient
Both I and II are sufficient
Answer: Option
Explanation:

From I, we conclude that the man is the only son of Tanya's grandfather i.e. he is Tanya's father or Tanya is the man's daughter.

From II, we conclude that the man's father is Tanya's grandfather. Since the man has no brothers or sisters, so he is Tanya's father or Tanya is the man's daughter.

In case some guys are saying that only son doesn't mean Tanya's grandfather has no daughter, yes it is possible but the old man would be maternal grandfather not the grandfather with respect to Tanya.

As per question option c is correct.

From statement 1 the man can be Tanya's father or uncle but from statement 2 he is only father of Tanya. SO ACCORDING TO ME ANSWER CAN BE OPTION C EITHER ONE OR TWO IS SUFFICIENT.

Here, the gender of Tanya is not mentioned so can we assume that Tanya is a daughter & the question had asked about how Tanya is related?

So the answer should be neither I or II.

But the question is "how is Tanya related to the man" and there is no statement specifying the gender of Tanya. Tanya can be his son or daughter. So, the answer should be D.

Only son doesn't imply that grandfather doesn't have a daughter. Tanya has two grandfathers (one from mothers side and one from her fathers side). You can think now.

But the gender of Tanya is not given so we can't say whether Tanya is his son or daughter from those two statements. Shouldn't the answer be D then?

I has not been mentioned that the grandfather is maternal or paternal, So I think the answer should be --> (D) Neither I nor II is sufficient.

Definitely C.

If you look at the explanation, both answers end in this phrase, "he is Tanya's father or Tanya is the man's daughter".

The answer should have been C. Both statements convey the man as Tanya's father. The gender of Tanya is irrelevant to the answer.

But it is said man is only son of tanya's grand father meaning he is the father of tanya how can he be uncle or any ?
