The answer should be "Data Insufficient", as it is only known that D's son is grandson of C. Here two cases arise: (I) C here could be D's father (hence C becomes paternal grandfather of D's son), or (ii)C could be D's wife's father (hence C becomes maternal grandfather of D's son). In case I B is daughter of C, and in case II B is C's son-in-law's (D's) sister, for which there is no specific term known.
I fail to understand why the concept of paternal and maternal grandfather is not being considered while solving such questions. Also, people, please understand that statement two anyhow will be required (although the question still stays invalid) because unless the gender of B is known, how can one establish B's relationship with anyone?

Both 2 statements are required. Because according to the question D is the brother of B . It means we don't know B is male/female.
So according to the first statement ' The son of D is the grandson of C .So here we can know C is the father of D . And second statement say ' B is the sister of D . So about two statements we can know,
C is the father of D.
B is the sister of D.
B is the daughter and D is the son of C.
So finally B is female.
Hope you guys understand.

You all are wrong. The given answer is correct.
From I: D is MALE, B is MALE or FEMALE. So, we can find only that 'B is SON or DAUGHTER of C'. There is no info to find whether B is male/female in I.
From II: We can find that D is MALE or FEMALE, B is FEMALE.
From I & II: We can find that B is the daughter of C.
Please be careful on solving these kind of questions.
Hope this info may help you a little bit. Have a nice day!

The given answer is correct. Because we have to know how B is related to C?
And for answering this we need to know that B is male or female.
Because after getting that B is the sister of D we will sure that B is the daughter of C. Without 2nd statement it can be B is the daughter of C as well as son of C.

The First Statement help us discover 'C' as the Grandfather and The second statement help us discover not only the gender of 'C" but also the relation between C and D.
And if The gender was not specified then in that case the option would have 'Can't be Determined'-Which would be our answer.

Correct Mr. Sunder, but no where in the given statement is mentioned that B has to be sister. So if we consider the only A point, then D and B becomes brother. The confusion is related to the sex of B. Hence if you consider B as male A is correct and if you consider B as female then D is correct.

If we see the question carefully, we will get the correct answer.
i.e, the question was "how B is related to C" then we need both the statements.
If the question was "how C is related to B" then statement is sufficient.
So according to me answer is "D". I hope you have understood.

I think only statement 1 is required as the relation of B is asked wrt C. So B is the father of C can b explained with statement 1 itself. If the question was how C is related to B then 2nd statement was required. Hence the answer is A.

Possibility of C being D's father -in-law is not specified, hence data insufficient must be the answer, as that option does not exist, the only other possibility from option makes C the father of D and B hence making C the father of B.

1 and 2 both are require because we have to relates to B and C(see the question properly). if D is son of C then D's son becomes grand son of C automatically B becomes daughter of C.
So B is the daughter of C.. Answer is D.
So B is the daughter of C.. Answer is D.
