Grandfather can be from lata's mom's father. "the only son of my grandfather" can mean that there is only brother of of lata's mother.

In such questions where they mention about only son or only daughter then sometimes it also means that the parent has only one son but he can have a daughter too.

Couldn't be that Lata is talking about himself here? (if he were the only child)?

Actualy the only son of lata's grandfather is lata's father himself and his only son is lata's father's son which means lata's brother. Here in the question only son doesnot mean he has only one child it means he had only one male person in his next generation.

The given answer is correct. Don't get confused. Let me explain.

Assume that, your grandfather has only one son.

This means that your grandfather CANNOT be the Father of your Mother. Because he has only one son. So he (your grandfather) is Father of your Father.

Now son of your grandfather's son (i.e. son of your father) is definitely your brother.

In the given question, Lata can be a Male or Female, but answer is BROTHER.
