You can see the statement that x said to "His" friend Y. So, here "his" determines that X is a male and that is how option B is correct.

In the beggininng of the question, it is mentioned that x said to his friend that because his is mentioned. So son is the right answer.

But if gender is not determined then we give priority to masculine gender so how can we judge that whether there is a girl or a boy?

According to me, It is mentioned that "X said to his friend Y". Here, "His refers to Y not to X"!
So the answer should be option D.
So the answer should be option D.

@All.
I'm choosing "D" because there's a possibility that X could be a girl and Y is a boy, as girls can also be friends with boys.

Hey, infanta sees this.
In the question, it is said that.
X said to his friend Y.
So from the word his we can say that x is a male.

Sundar is right.
'His friend' reflects that X is male. If X is female then it should be 'her friend' instead of 'his friend'.

I also got confused about the gender but by closer look it was written "said to his friend" and HIS implies that he is a male.
