Answer: Option
Explanation:

Let number of horses = number of men = x.

Then, number of legs = 4x + 2 x (x/2) = 5x.

So, 5X = 70 or x = 14.

Here no Of horses and men is equal.
So, Let's say x
While half of the owner is on horses back and a half walking
So total legs on the ground is 70.
We know a horse has 4 legs and a man has 2 legs
So 4x + 2(x/2)= 70 (here x/2 is bcoz half of the men is on horse's back while only half is walking with horses).
5x = 70 .
x = 14 (horses and men).

Why we multiply by x/2?

Bhuvaneskumar said:   1 decade ago
Because half a man is in horses back, thats why multiply by x/2.

Why we multiply by 4x?

How this 5x came?

See totally 70 legs.

1. Horses totally have a 4 legs.

2. Humans totally have a 2 legs.

So 4x + (2*x) /2.

That the simple reason.

The total num of legs comes as:
Horses legs is 4 * number of horses = 4*(x).
Humans leg is 2 * number of humans i.e. half of the humans, x/2 = 2*(x/2).
So total number of legs are : (4*x) + (2*(x/2)) = 5x.
So, we get 5x = 70.

Here it should be, 4X + (2X)/2 = 4X + 1X =5X is correct.

4x+2x/2=70.
8x+2x/2=70,
10x/2=70,
70*2/10= 14.
