The taxi charges in a city comprise of a fixed charge, together with the charge of the distance covered. For a journey of 16 km, the charges paid are Rs. 156 and for a journey of 24 km, the charges paid are Rs. 204. What will a person have to pay for travelling a distance of 30 km?
Rs. 236
Rs. 240
Rs. 248
Rs. 252
Answer: Option
Explanation:

Let the fixed charge be Rs. x and variable charge be Rs.y per km. Then,

x + 16y = 156 ...(i) and

x + 24y = 204 ...(ii)

Solving (i) and (ii), we get: x = 60, y = 6.

Therefore Cost of travelling 30 km = 60 + 30 y = Rs. (60 + 30 x 6) = Rs. 240.

24 - 16 = 8
204 - 156 = 48.

For, 30 km which is 6 km more than 24 km,
6 km= (48*8)/6 = 36
24 + 6 = 30.

Therefore, 204 + 36 = 240 Rs.

Just think a logically way.

For a journey of 16 km, the charges paid are Rs. 156 and for a journey of 24 km, the charges paid are Rs. 204. What will a person have to pay for travelling a distance of 30 km?
means that:

16km=156rs
24km=204rs

Difference between 16km and 24km is 8km.
Difference between 156 rs and 204rs is 48rs.
Now calculate each km is 8km=48rs means 1km=6rs.
We know that,
24km=204
We know that 1km=6rs
But the difference between 24km and 30km is 6km means 6km*6=36rs.

24km= 214rs + 30km= 36rs,
= 240rs.

@Chottu Singh, @Karthik.

Solving (i) and (ii) :
(ii) - (i) : 0x+8y=48
8y=48
y=48/8
y=6

put y=6 in (i) or (ii) to get value of x :
in (ii):
x+16*-6=156,
x+96=156,
x=156-96,
x=60.

Hope you will understand,
