After distributing the sweets equally among 25 children, 8 sweets remain. Had the number of children been 28, 22 sweets would have been left after equal distribution. What was the total number of sweets ?
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Let the total number of sweets be (25x + 8).
Then, (25x + 8) - 22 is divisible by 28
(25x - 14) is divisible by 28
28x - (3x + 14) is divisible by 28
(3x + 14) is divisible by 28
x = 14.
Therefore Total number of sweets = (25 x 14 + 8) = 358.

Let us assume the total number of sweets are x.
When it is divided among 25 children=x/25 giving the remainder 8 And when it is divided among 28 children=x/28 giving the remainder 22.
Taking options;
A. 328/25 gives the remainder 3.
B. 348/25 gives the remainder 23.
C. 358/25 gives the remainder 8 and 358/28 gives the remainder 22.
Hence the correct option is C. 358.
When it is divided among 25 children=x/25 giving the remainder 8 And when it is divided among 28 children=x/28 giving the remainder 22.
Taking options;
A. 328/25 gives the remainder 3.
B. 348/25 gives the remainder 23.
C. 358/25 gives the remainder 8 and 358/28 gives the remainder 22.
Hence the correct option is C. 358.

Let X number of the sweet distributing each student. Therefore, a total number of sweets is 25X + 8 when it distributing among 25 children and 28X - 22 when it distributing among 28 children.
Therefore, 28X - 22 = 25X + 8.
=> 28X - 25X = 8 + 22,
=> 3X = 30,
=> X = 10,
Therefore total number of sweets is 25x10 + 8 = 258.
Therefore, 28X - 22 = 25X + 8.
=> 28X - 25X = 8 + 22,
=> 3X = 30,
=> X = 10,
Therefore total number of sweets is 25x10 + 8 = 258.

Yes you are right @Abhi.
Sweets=8+25*(each).......(1).
Sweets=22+28*(each)....(2).
Subtracting above we get,
3x+14 when x=14 it is divisible by 28.
So substitute x=14 in Total number of sweets = (25 x 14 + 8) = 358.
Sweets=8+25*(each).......(1).
Sweets=22+28*(each)....(2).
Subtracting above we get,
3x+14 when x=14 it is divisible by 28.
So substitute x=14 in Total number of sweets = (25 x 14 + 8) = 358.

Check every option... etc
Option A : 328.
328/25 = 13 and 3 so not correct (Also do 328/28)
Option B : 348.
348/25 =13 and 23 not correct
Option C : 358.
358/25 = 14 and 8 its correct
358/28 =12 and 22.

But the number of sweets distributed equally both times is same or not is didn't specify here, right?

sweets=8+25*(each).......(1)
sweets=22+28*(each)....(2)
by solving we get each and sweets.
is this way not correct?
