Convert the fraction to have a denominator

Add them, 8/40+5/40, take the common denominator.

My answer is different because,
Let total is x.
x/5+x/8 = 13x/40 taken LCM. But we want fraction.
So, x/13x/40 = 40/13.
My answer is none of these.

It means out of 13 students 2 took part in the fete.
Hence, it is 2/13.

Total participation = 20+12.5= 32.5% i.e 13/40.

Let the total no of students be x.
x=x/8+x/5.
=5x/40+8x/40.
x=13x\40.
No of student = 13/40(as x will be cancel from both side).
x=x/8+x/5.

Boys = 1/8,
x = 1/5 + 1/8,
x = 8 + 5/40,
