Let number of girls = x and number of boys = 3x.

Then, 3x + x = 4x = total number of students.

Read the question once, there it is mentioned clearly which will not represent the total number of students in class it means, which number will never divisible by 4 in the given options it will be the answer.

Yeah, the correct answer is 48. But they asked only what is the wrong answer among the given options, So it's obviously 42 which it can't divisible by 4 directly.
