Here grain refers to rice grain as sme small part of salt and simillarly chip can be part of glass.

But a glass can be considered to b consisting even smaller units. Salt is a type of granular substance. But glass is not a chip-like substance. Then?

Ramesh is absolutely wrong since the grain is considered as the smallest part of salt where as similarly chips are made of sio2 it is a part of glass hence D is the right option.
