I agree with Borhan. I find the Q-A misleading/confusing - should we go for strict synonyms (as stated in the answer feedback, though not in the question) or for nearest meaning?

Awakened is a past participle/adjective and its synonym needs also to be the same.

Enlightened is more appropriate than waken. Waken being synonymous to awaken is just like saying that the synonym of enlightened is lightened.

Awakened and waken are in two different tense form. Doesn't that make awaken inappropriate.
