Brief is always meaning some ting that is abstract. You cannot relate brief with limited and little. Only thing that is left is small and short. Now a brief period if you think of then it is lways a short period. You cannot say that every small oject or small thing is a brief. Hence most appropriate answer is short.

Limited, small and little mainly reflects incompleteness of something.
For example:
I don't want limited but detailed information.
While brief is mainly used to express something in a sweet and short way.

If we get a question like briefly explain solar system?
That means we have to explain the each and every concept in that according to the question! then how can be the answer short for brief!

Brief means short, lets take example, that someone tell you explain this passage in brief then you explain them main and short text, not just small or meaningless, so brief mean short.

Brief means not covering much. Just a short description.
Sometimes brief refers to limited, little, ephemeral, abbreviated, curt. Etc.
So we can't say that, only short is the answer.
