Adversity refers to a state of persistent or grave misfortune, misfortune is a general term for bad luck or an unfortunate event, and crisis denotes a time of intense difficulty or danger with a potential for a significant outcome.
Some common synonyms of adversity are mischance, misfortune, and mishap. While all these words mean "adverse fortune or an instance of this, " adversity applies to a state of grave or persistent misfortune.
Note: The question asks for the one that best expresses, they might look similar but "Misfortune, " fits best!

Crisis generally needs to be supported by some description; say, economic crisis, water crisis etc. So it basically a type of problem and needs a descriptive to complete its meaning and takes form of a noun. But, misfortune and adversity both are complete in themselves, and are adverbs (adverb of time).

Why not helplessness friends?
Even in adverse situation person becomes helpless.
And misfortune is not what is always responsible for adversity.
