A person cannot take the exercise, a person can do exercise so [c] is the answer.

We use Fatter in comparative sentence and this sentence is not comparative. That's why here using Fat.

Fatter than before - this sense makes the use of fatter right here. Also take exercise is an accepted use like in you take the examination. So, I feel the option D 'no error' is likely here.
