Just understand the difference is told = said to.

Ex: Sam told chandu.

Sam said to chandu.

"he would mind". We are talking about a future situation,

In that case shouldn't it be "I refuse his offer".

What say?

"Will" is used when we talk about the future, promises or offer.

"Would" is used when we talk about past.

We have few doubts..letme clear it for u @chandru..

1.) told to is wrong..shouldn't use it e.g."he told to me a story"..is wrong it has to be"he told me a story".

2.) said to is used in direct form of speech such as when u know the subject u are talking to : sam said to chandru,"I have fever"

3.)but when u say: Sam said,"I have fever" u don't have any object to whom u are telling this, so u use said

4.)changing the above to statements into indirect form: "sam told chandru that he had fever" and " sam said that he had fever" respectively

i think these will help u to understand the concept behind the usage of following words..

Friends I have one confusion. May I know where I use 'said' and where I use told. Is 'said to' and told or the same?

@lalit: i agree with u lalit but "would" is used for uncertain conditions while "will" is used for certainity. so in the above statement there can be both "will" or "would". so please correct me if i am wrong!

No. It is refuse rather than refused and would is The Present Unreal Conditional which is used to talk about what you would generally do in imaginary situations.

Because said in past form so 'would' be the right answer.
