Can anyone tell why A is the answer?

"About", identifies a topic. In option A, "problem" is specific and does not denote a topic. Hence option A is correct. Option C is not concise but it is grammatically correct.

Option a is correct.

Because no need to use 'about' after discuss, also no need of so before thoroughly. Because its already so many times.

The correct is "we discussed the problem thoroughly".

No need of using "so" & "about" in sentence 1.

But don't you guys think c can also be the right answer ?

Thoroughly means "so many times" like that then there is no need 2 use so again.

"about" is use before any topic so it is in right place but thoroughly @ means complete but not deeply.

So there no need to write "so".
