It is correct! me should be used in place of my. My is used with the objects (either living or non living). Like my pen, my mother, my father, my book, etc. While me is used with an activity. Like "no question of me doing that boring work"! your comments are invited!

Its not true because before gerund pronoun is used only in possessive form so in this sentence no error has occurred.

Where did the 'me' comes from? I think using 'me' in the sentence makes it more incorrect.

The principal objected to their wearing short skirts at the function. Here "to their wearing" is equivalent to "of my failing". So there is no error.
