If we use forbade to, it must be followed by leave the hostel. Since, "leaving the hostel" is the part of the sentence,"forbade from" is the correct usage as opposed to "forbade to".

You are all wrong. Here are the two possible correct forms of the sentences: The warden stopped the student from leaving the hostel or The warden forbade the student to leave the hostel.

Forbid to and Forbid from, they mean the same thing. But forbid someone to sounds much better. And also the infinite has a more 'imperative ' meaning than 'from+gerund'.

Forbade is past tense and forbidden is past participle form or forbid. So option d is right since the sentence is in past tense form.

Forbade: to command (a person) not to do something.

For refers it had already happened.

From refers, it will going to happen.

Verbs refuse and forbid are followed by infinitive form of verb and deny is followed by from and a gerund.

What's wrong in "forbade the STUDENTS" ? I think it should be STUDENTS instead of STUDENT.

Ubaidulla said:   9 years ago
There will be the use of to after forbade because forbade always carries to not from.

And the correct sentence is The warden forbade the students from leaving the hostel.

@Thomas and @Sriram.

Both of you are wrong. It should be "you are all doing wrong".
