I AM HEARING can be used when the sentence is like the following.

"In these days I am hearing a lot about the problem of AIDS"- this is Present continuous.

There are few of the verbs like hear, feel (which is not seen by other people such kind of verbs) for which we don't use "ing".

For example while we mean " I am feeling" it should be as "I feel" in English.

Preposition "About" should be replaced by "Of".

You are correct @Anoop.

But using of 'about' in the given sentence doesn't make a perfect sentence.

Some verbs are not used with continuous tense. As, Like, want, hear, know, see, seem, appear, understand, notice, belong, believe, remember, fear etc.

Simply, "these days" indicates for simple present. Am I right?

@Vikash.

The following verbs are normally used in the present simple instead of present continuous.

1) verbs of appearance : look, appear, seem.
2) verbs of emotions: want, wish, desire, feel, like, love, hate, hope, prefer etc.
3) verbs of perception: see, hear, smell, taste, notice, recognise, etc.
4) verbs of possession : belong to, consist of, contain, own, etc.
5) verbs of thinking : agree, believe, consider, forget, imagine, know, mind, remember, etc.
