The retiring principal asked his own pupils to take the interest in HIS school after he has retired.
Hope error spotted here is right. Because we use 'the' only to specify things that are unique. 'THE SCHOOL' doesn't point which school it is. 'HIS SCHOOL' informs us that the school, where the principal is working.
I'm suggesting. Am I right?

"The retiring principal asked his old pupils to take interest in the school after him" - This is right as well. Since we are already mentioning " retiring principal", we need not use the same word again at the end.

How could you say the word 'his'. It refers to the meaning that the principal owns the school?
It doesn't mentioned anywhere that principal owns the school.

@Seepuri.
Check the meaning of "retiring". It is not the same as you are taking it.

Prateek is right, it should be "after his retirement".

Had retired should be used there as it is an indirect speech.
