It is time we accept all our people as equal and as partners in the task of building a strong and united nation.
I think this is right, should must be avoided.

The statement must be in past or present subjunctive. So, it should be either, "It is time we accepted" or "it is time that we accept". As far as "equals" is concerned, it is used as a plural noun here, which is correct.

As per my knowledge, when the sentence begins with "it is time", it should be followed by a simple past. Eg: accepted.

We can't write equals we write equal it has no plural form.
Eg: It is the time we should accept our people as equal.
Eg: It is the time we should accept our people as equal.

Why there is no "the" before 'time'. As here is it talking about a specific time?
