In English, the form V + -ing is called a gerund if it serves as a noun. For example, the gerund form of "run" is "running". (I like cats, I like dogs, I like running). However, not all V + ing forms are gerunds--in "I am running", "running" is another verb.

1) If the to is part of a phrasal verb or verb + preposition combination:
A phrasal verb is something like " look forward to", " confess to", etc. In this case, the "to" is part of the verb itself. Some examples are:

I am looking forward to attending the party
I am committed to supporting the Linguistics proposal on Area51
2) If the to is part of an adjective + preposition combination:
For example:

A lot of women aren't accustomed to being treated so well!
I am opposed to increasing taxes.
These look similar to the examples above, but you can tell that a word like accustomed is an adjective in this case because there is a form of the verb to be. That is, you are an adjective.

3) If the to is part of a noun + preposition combination:

For example:
His addiction to gambling has caused a lot of stress for his family.
Her great dedication to teaching inspires her students.

The question puts forth the meaning: Besides enhancing reputation, the companies are sponsoring social initiatives. Here is the concept of parallelism: enhancing should be parallel with sponsoring.

Use of 'Of " is wrong in option A,

To having should be followed by enhanced, which is ruled out in option B,

Option D is wordy and wrong.

So, C is correct.

Some of the words must follow specific prepositions after them like,

Accused of (accused of a crime).
Accustomed to (accustomed to a life of luxury).
Acquainted with (acquainted with him).
Addicted to (addicted to gambling).
Afraid of (afraid of dogs).
Agreeable to (agreeable to the idea).

Friends - In addition to +verb+ing can be used.

Ex: 1 My brother asked me if he might record the interview in addition to taking notes.

Ex: 2 The cliff's sheer drop created a natural defense against any intruders in addition to providing a view that was breathtaking by day or night.

This is an exception, we should not use ING form after TO, but Literature doesn't follow any formula as in math.

Here we should check parallelism. Hence given answer is correct and we should learn from this.

Yeah we can use in addition to enhance their reputation. But the second part of the sentence is in present continuous tense. So it is appropriate to use "in addition to enhancing".

No we can not write in addition of....with the word 'addition' we always use 'to'.

But I think why an option is not given like

'in addition to enhance their reputations'.

yes, we can use -ing after the word "to" after a preposition.

example:

* I look forward to meeting you.
* They left without saying "Goodbye."

' 'To' is related with 'in addition' mean 'in addition to' is the phase so to is not followed by enhance.

We know infinitive is to+v1.

But not using the infinitive to.

Absolutely what @Pooja and @Satyansh said is correct. Because in addition to is the correct expression. And moreover I never listened the word like enhancing.
