Its not an interrogative sentence, its just a statement, so the auxillary verb (should) comes after the noun.

Here he is not asking the question to anyone. He says this to himself so it should not be an interrogative sentence. That is why "should" did not come after "why"here.

I think the correct option should be C. After wh question, it must be should.

Option A is Correct because When you change direct into indirect in interrogate (WH) after 'Wh' question subject +verb (Shall changes into should) and therefore Option A is correct.

As per my knowledge, should is used after the subject and before the verb. Therefore option A is right.

Always subject should come first, after the wh word.
