Option C is not correct as it changes the tense. A is right as it correctly refers back to the crowd.

The Answer is wrong here. Here he asked the crowd whether he was right or wrong and the crowd shouted wether he did right or wrong. Here right or wrong does was "He" not the crowd. "That they did" here they pronoun of "The crowd".

Here "they did" is undoubtedly correct because it clearly indicates "the crowd thought".

Yes, OPTION E seems to be appropriate as THAT THEY DID means that they are actually supporting whatever he says.

May be the sentence is in passive voice so E is correct answer.
