Besides, there was the beast's owner to be considered. But I had got to act quickly. I turned to some experienced-looking Burmans who had been there when we arrived, and asked them how the elephants had been behaving. They all said the same thing; he took no notice of you if you left him alone, but he might charge if you went too close to him.

Answer should be B. Since it is not mentioned in para about killing animals which are not doing any harm. So by our own we can't assume option c. But he felt it is worse to kill large animal (given in para). So the correct option is only B.

The line, "I had never shot an elephant and never wanted to". It shows that he is inexperienced in killing elephants and it also states that he has killed animals, that is, he is not inexperienced.

Even I felt the same the answer should be c. In the given passage it is clearly mentioned that "i had never shot an elephant and never wanted to shoot" this sentence shows he did not wish to shoot.

According to author the guy never wanted to shoot an elephant but the author didn't explain the reason. So the answer given in option 'C' seems to be an assumption. So 'B' is better choice.

I agree to them its not a matter of being inexperienced but he don't wants to shoot cause if the animal is not harmful then better not to kill it.

Lines of author "I had never shot an elephant" and never wanted to. Author's first immediate feeling is he had never shot an elephant which clearly means that he had no experience of shooting big elephant which is backed by second thought..that he does not like to do so.
So we should go with his first immediate feeling.
So we should go with his first immediate feeling.
