I turned to some experienced-looking Burmans who had been there when we arrived, and asked them how the elephants had been behaving. In my view there are two different things : One is about being capable to shoot animal and the other is his sympathy about elephant that is stronger part according to the passage.
So option C looks little bit more correct than and option B. So my answer is C.

As narrated story the author mention two things are 1) " It seemed to me that it would be murder to shoot him" might be he afraid. 2) "Somehow it always seems worse to kill large animal" it shown the author was kind. I guess A and C both are correct.

The line ''I had never shot an elephant and never wanted to''. It suggests that the author has an inexperience of killing animals like an elephant, so killing an elephant will be a murder to him. B is my answer.
