Verbal Ability - Comprehension - Discussion

I felt the wall of the tunnel shiver. The master alarm squealed through my earphones. Almost simultaneously, Jack yelled down to me that there was a warning light on. Fleeting but spectacular sights snapped into ans out of view, the snow, the shower of debris, the moon, looming close and big, the dazzling sunshine for once unfiltered by layers of air. The last twelve hours before re-entry were particular bone-chilling. During this period, I had to go up in to command module. Even after the fiery re-entry splashing down in 81o water in south pacific, we could still see our frosty breath inside the command module.

The word 'Command Module' used twice in the given passage indicates perhaps that it deals with

I could figure out the answer by these lines :

"the dazzling sunshine for once unfiltered by layers of air", it clearly depicts the absence of atmosphere, indicating they were in space.

Question doesn't ask that what command module stands in the passage for? It simply asking what "command module" use for? so command module is the control center and living quarters for most of the lunar mission for astronauts. The fourth sentence in the passage indicates flight. In summary, the passage is about flight into outer space, So option C is correct.

Command Module:

A space module in which astronauts can live and control the spacecraft and communicate with earth. So C is correct.

Nikkijane said: (Mar 14, 2014)
Yah I got it right. As for me why I chose the answer C is that I just relate it to the paragraph primarily the first sentence so I pictured as if they're on outer space.

Command module is the control center and living quarters for most of the lunar mission for astronauts.
The fourth sentence in the passage indicates flight.
In summary, the passage is about the flight into outer space, so option C is correct.

Sahin said: (Apr 26, 2016)
However it's not a journey "into" space, it is a journey "back from" outer space. Not into.

So it cannot be option c.

Premkumar said: (Jul 2, 2016)
Command module mean "The portion of space craft in which the astronauts live, Communicate with a ground station during a flight".

So Option C is correct.

Hema said: (Jul 12, 2016)
There are several indicators in the passage that point out that the passage "perhaps' deals with a journey into outer space. The author describes the 'fleeting and spectacular sights' snapping in and out. This indicates a vehicle moving at an unimaginable speed. So it cannot be a journey.

The author speaks of 'command module', 're-entry', 'splashing down. The pacific' etc. All these words are associated with the 'return' of a space ship to earth. Therefore the word 'perhaps'. The absence of any action between characters shows that options A and B and D are incorrect.

Option C is correct because option A describes a tough journey, yes it is a tough one but what makes option C valid is the context in which it happened. Option B is ruled out.
