well basically concealing means to hide....so it cannot be D,
and with context of the sentence you cannot use the word succeed so eliminate option C.
and again agony means pain...so if its B it contradicts the statement..and it obviously cant be A since it means happy and not angry...so its E :)

Here the key word is 'DESPITE' so the next statement should be
-ve to the statement which is given immediate to the Despite word.
