Option C is correct, but option B is also correct, because if there are no microbes in soil (or earth) then how gaseous exchange. I mean to say that decomposing also play important role in most natural food chains.

Food chain starts with food synthesizing organisms- producers but not with primary consumers. Option C is more appropriate.

Option C is correct because we know first food has to be synthesized then it can be consumed by a herbivorous animal. If now food is synthesized then how could herbivorous animal get the food?
