Billet and Blooms are generally smaller in size than an ingot. If the cross section of a casting is a square, it is called a billet. Billets have a cross section are of less than 36 sq inches .

Blooms have rectangular cross sections. The name Bloom comes from Bloomery. Another condition for a bloom is that the cross section must be greater than 36 sq. inches.

Is it necessary that billet is in the square cross-section.

As per my knowledge; billet is in a cylindrical shape.
