Actually Q should be following way.

The strain energy stored in a solid circular shaft subjected to torsional stress (τ) is (where C = Modulus of rigidity for the shaft material),
then opt D.
OR

The strain energy stored in a solid circular shaft subjected to shear stress (τ) is (where C = Modulus of elasticity for the shaft material),
then opt B.

Siimply, solve strain energy =0.5*T*θ.
Put T=(τ*J)/R.
And theta = (τ*L)/(C*R).
Note: separate volume as (π*d2*L).

You will get the same answer as D option.

Answer is option B.

[D] is for strain energy stored in a material due to torsional stress. Here, shear stress is given for which B is true.

D is not a correct answer, Option B is the correct answer.
U = 1/2(T.θ)
U = 1/2(T^2L/GJ)
U = (τ^2/2G)Volume of shaft.

A given shaft which is subjected to shear stress so defini torsion will be developed no need to mention in a question.

D is correct answer because shaft is used for transmit the torque so when it rotates tortional stress is induced.
