Zero rake angle is used in thread cutting operation and machining of brass workpiece.

Brass is a special case.

I agree with @Shikander prasad.

Generally rake angle has not so impact on surface finish but in case of brass keeping all parameter same if we provide 0 rake angle we can achieve great surface finish.

Because of sticking tendency of brass we use 0 rake angle.

Brass is the soft material so 0 rake angle.

For cast iron and brass zero rake angle is used.

Ideally zero rake angle can be applied to any material.

If rake angle is zero then there will be excess tool wear.

How can you provide that much?

Shikandar Prasad said:   9 years ago
For brittle materials negative rake angle required & for ductile materials positive rake angle required for machining brass is in between of above two materials so for brass we use zero rake angle.

All soft materials should machine at zero rake angle?

Good surface finish is obtained with zero rake angle while machining brass with HSS tool.
