In oblique cutting, the maximum chip thickness may not occurs at the middle because the cutting edge of the tool is inclined at an acute angle with the direction of tool feed or work feed. Thus the thickness of the chip coming out is equal in each sides. Drilling comes under the oblique cutting, which shows the good example.

In orthogonal cutting i.e. 90 deg cutting chip thickness is in middle while in oblique it may be anywhere.

When the chip does not flow on orthogonal plane i.e. chip deviates from orthogonal plane then it is called oblique cutting.

Oblique cutting is a type of metal cutting operation. In which cutting edge of the tool is straight and inclined to the direction of tool or work travel. This helps chips to flow easily.
