In diesel engines air is get compressed in the engine before fuel injection occurrence in power stroke. So that it is CI engine.

Diesel engine uses the heat of compressed air to initiate ignition and burn the fuel that has been injected into the combustion chamber. So the ignition takes place due to the compression process of air.

In diesel engine air is first compressed to ignition temperature of the fuel to be injected and then fuel is injected into the combustion chamber.

In diesel engine first compressed at high temperature of fuel then it is injected in combustion chamber.

Compressing in a closed cylinder air gots maximum temperature perhaps fuel is high pressurised injected in a closed cylinder that causes combustible take place.

In the compression ignition engine air fuel mixture burn due to high compression ratio, compressed air temperature higher than self ignition temperature of fuel.

In the compression ignition engine air-fuel mixture is not pass together in engine, In engine comes under mixture and its cycle is also changes for constant pressure that's way it is CI engine.

Diesel fuel cannot be ignited through spark as done in petrol engines.

So its is first intake to combustion chamber is air and then its compressed then at end of compression stroke diesel fuel at high pressure ratio its injected in to the combustion chamber in sprinkled form thus fuel gets ignited.

The compression ratio of diesel is very high between 12-22.
That's why it burn in very less compression so it doesn't needs spark plug.

Fuel burns only by heat created during compression.
That's why it is known as compression ignition engine.

In diesel engine due to compression of air only the pressure and temp of air increases and when fuel is sprayed instant ignition takes place.
