Actually, all are right that for the elastic body it will be less than. But one of the answers mentioned that opposite direction. And actually, it matters more. So we assume that the body is perfectly elastic.

C is the correct answer because it is given that collision is elastic but not perfectly elastic.

So e<1 therefore relative velocity of bodies after impact is less than before.

Option C is correct as for an elastic body e<1. Hence Velocity of separation will be less than the Velocity of Approach hence option B is incorrect. So, the option is C.

For the elastic bodies, it is" less than and opposite" but there is no option suiting this.

So it is assumed that the bodies are perfectly elastic.

For perfectly elastic bodies the answer will be equal and opposite. But for elastic bodies answer it will be less than or equal.
