Answer should be C. As its not perfectly elastic.

I think correct answer will be option C.
As coefficient of restitution is less than 1 for elastic collision.
As coefficient of restitution is less than 1 for elastic collision.

C is the correct answer because it is given that collision is elastic but not perfectly elastic.
So e<1 therefore relative velocity of bodies after impact is less than before.
So e<1 therefore relative velocity of bodies after impact is less than before.

For perfectly elastic bodies the answer will be equal and opposite. But for elastic bodies answer it will be less than or equal.

For the elastic bodies, it is" less than and opposite" but there is no option suiting this.
So it is assumed that the bodies are perfectly elastic.
So it is assumed that the bodies are perfectly elastic.

Actually, all are right that for the elastic body it will be less than. But one of the answers mentioned that opposite direction. And actually, it matters more. So we assume that the body is perfectly elastic.

B is the right answer. Because it say about direction i.e. opposite direction and assumed it as a perfectly elastic.
