Scalar quantities are the ones that have magnitude only whereas vector quantities have both magnitude and direction.

We mention the speed in distance unit per time unit ex: km/ hr (or) m/ sec (or) some other else.

We mention the velocity in the same kind. Then how we identify it is scalar or vector? Anybody clear my doubt.

The definition of speed and velocity are same except that speed doesn't have any direction whereas velocity has. So, speed is scalar and velocity is a vector quantity.

Speed could be in any direction its direction cannot be determined in a particular path so it is a scalar quantity where as the other components as force, velocity and acceleration should be determined in a certain path so they are vector quantities.

Scalar quantity has only magnitude, However vector quantity has both magnitude & direction. Speed has only magnitude not direction so it is scalar quantity.
