White cast iron is very hard and brittle, so it can not be machines properly. It is the only member from cast iron family where carbon is presented only as carbide. For the presence of different types of carbide and less present of silicon it is extremely hard and brittle so lacks tensile strength.

According to my suggestion,
The question talks about the mechanical property of white cast iron.
Therefore some mechanical properties of wcl are:.
No ductility.
Extremely hard and brittle.
Excellent wear resistant.
Abrasion resistant.
High compressive stress and.
Low tensile strength.

Cast iron contains graphite flakes (sheets) means it contain carbon & is brittle in nature, so cast iron is brittle & brittle materials show low strength in tension than in compression.

The answer is A.
Because white cast iron behaves like ductile material.
Therefore it has high tensile and low compressive strength.
This CI (wci) is an exception in the CI family.

White cast iron is hard and brittle, hence it high compressive strength with corresponding poor strength under tension as generally associated with brittle materials.

As per RS Khurmi and JK Gupta. The carbon is in form of carbide (known as Cementite). White cast iron has high tensile strength and low compressive strength.

Grey cast iron - low tensile strength and high compressive strength.
White cast iron - high tensile strength adn low compressive strength.
White cast iron - high tensile strength adn low compressive strength.

Cast iron has low percentage of elongation it is brittle material and it is used in lathe bed that's why it having high compression.
