Crankshaft rotate aligned with cylinder block, so its transmit the power from source.

The shaft that transmit power from source is known as main journal.

Mainly there are two type of Journal in Crankshaft:

1) Main Journal.
2) Rod Journal.

Journal at the Connecting Rod End is called Rod Journal.

And space between each Rod journal which sit on the cylinder block is called Main Journal. It is attached with thrust bearing.
