Find the statement that must be true according to the given information.

The Pacific yew is an evergreen tree that grows in the Pacific Northwest. The Pacific yew has a fleshy, poisonous fruit. Recently, taxol, a substance found in the bark of the Pacific yew, was discovered to be a promising new anticancer drug.

[A]. Taxol is poisonous when taken by healthy people.
[B]. Taxol has cured people from various diseases.
[C]. People should not eat the fruit of the Pacific yew.
[D]. The Pacific yew was considered worthless until taxol was discovered.

Answer: Option C

Given the information presented, the only statement that could be considered true is that the fruit should not be eaten because it is poisonous. There is no support that taxol is poisonous or that taxol has cured anyone (choices a and b). There is no support for choice d.

Sir in my sence taxol to be a promising new anticancer drug. i.e., it cured people from various diseases.

I m supporting for [D]. Because Taxol is used as anticancer drug, it should be eaten by cancer diseases pepole. It is right that Pacific yew was not worth but now worthwhile only because of Toxic.

Supporting for answer D. Because it is also said that recently it has been discovered as anti drug for cancer till then it was only a poisonous fruit no one rather eats any poisonous thing. So it was worthless, until the taxol is discovered as a antidrug.

Can't say that it is worthless because statement it is considered as evergreen tree.

I will go for C.

I support [C]. Guys why are you all considering it worthless until taxol was discovered. Its fruit is poisonous but this tree might be worthy due to any other reason like its leaves are useful or it is very beautiful or its roots are useful etc.

Hence [C] is correct.

"The Pacific yew has a fleshy, poisonous fruit".

The statement People should not eat the fruit of the Pacific yew is a value judgment. People should not eat the fruit if they do not wish to be poisoned, that is true.

Actually C is correct because it is given that the fruit is poisonous and the bark is helpful in treating cancer.

My answer is "The pacific yew is considered worthless until taxol has been discovered".

Maqsood said: (Nov 6, 2016)
Option is C because fruit is poisonous and it was also worthful due to evergreen.

Agree @Mona.

My answer is also D.

My answer is D.

Because taxol discovered the pacific yew as an anticancer drug. So, it acts as an antibiotic to cancer patients.

"The Pacific yew has a fleshy, poisonous fruit".

Then why not option [A]?

The answer should be D.

Sravanthi T said: (Nov 27, 2019)
My answer is D as it has a poisonous fruit though it is evergreen. Now because it has taxol. It is useful.

Reetu said: (Nov 19, 2020)
According to me, the right answer is option D.

Alfred said: (May 16, 2021)
My answer is D. Worthless means there is "no use" or "not useful" for human application until taxol was discovered.
