Discussion Forum : Statement and Conclusion - Section 3 (Q.No. 4)
Directions to Solve

In each question below is given a statement followed by two conclusions numbered I and II. You have to assume everything in the statement to be true, then consider the two conclusions together and decide which of them logically follows beyond a reasonable doubt from the information given in the statement.

Give answer:

  • (A) If only conclusion I follows
  • (B) If only conclusion II follows
  • (C) If either I or II follows
  • (D) If neither I nor II follows and
  • (E) If both I and II follow.

4.

Statements: The average number of persons per household is 5 in urban areas whereas it is 7 in rural areas. The national average is 6.

Conclusions:

  1. The population per unit area in the rural areas is higher than in the urban areas.
  2. More persons live in the same household in the rural areas as compared to those in the urban areas.
Only conclusion I follows
Only conclusion II follows
Either I or II follows
Neither I nor II follows
Both I and II follow
Answer: Option
Explanation:
The population per household and not the population per unit area is being talked about in the statement. So, only II follows while I does not.

How come you say per household and per unit area are different?

As no explanation is given, so assume one household a unit area! both conclusions I and II means the same thing to me!
